Exercise 1 of 5
Spot the Mistake
Listen to each phrase and choose the word you actually hear — one word has been swapped for a similar-sounding one.
Exercise 2 of 5
Minimal Pairs
Listen and choose which word you hear. Near-homophones — the difference is subtle. Listen very carefully!
Exercise 3 of 5
Shadowing
Play each sentence and repeat it out loud, copying the rhythm and intonation. Each item turns green when played — that counts as done!
Exercise 4 of 5
True or False
Listen to the monologue, then say whether each statement is true or false. You can rewind 3 seconds or slow to 0.75×.

Listened
Hi there. Like many of you, I used to think that learning a language was just about memorising words. But researchers claim that approach only gets you so far. These days I'm studying a range of subjects in English — history, science, even cooking — and I find that I manage to pick up expressions naturally. Believe it or not, I found myself reading an entire article about linguistics last night without stopping once to check a dictionary. On top of that, I've started shadowing podcasts to get my pronunciation right. In case you're wondering, shadowing means you listen and repeat at the same time — it feels odd at first, but it really works. The idea seemed incredible to me when I first heard it, but I tried it and the results were impressive. My abilities have improved more than any other method has helped me. I can now get by fairly fluently in three languages, though my Spanish still needs work. The most important thing is to keep going, even when you're struggling to find the right words.
Exercise 5 of 5
